Part of my ongoing bodyscape exploration project, this image was especially fun to create. Simple lighting combined with a great model and a lot of micro-tweaking of body parts resulted in a shot that we were both thrilled to see come to life.

How Large Can That Digital File Go?
It’s a question one can find all over the Internet, and one that I get asked all the time. My favorite answer is generic: The better the image quality, the more leeway you have when it comes to printing – regardless of the number of pixels. It’s my way of trying to get people to be less fixated on the gear they’re carrying and more attentive to what they’re photographing.

Site Updates
Back in June, the WordPress community released a major update to its popular blogging tool. Since the core files have undergone some dramatic changes, I thought it best to hold off for awhile on an upgrade to my site and wait until my plugins had been updated or, at least, tested for compatibility with Version 3.
This weekend I took the leap and upgraded my installation of WordPress and spent quite a bit of time re-theming the site based on the new engine. There were a few hair-raising moments, but the changes are now in place. Continue reading “Site Updates”
On the Cover of Alpacas Magazine
I have to admit that I never gave much thought to what an Alpaca was, and I certainly never expected that there would be an entire magazine devoted to the creatures. So, I was taken a bit off guard when I was contacted by the editors of Alpacas Magazine with a request to use a couple of my photographs for a feature article.

Portrait Lighting with One Light
Sometimes it’s easy to get carried away with lighting, but lighting doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective.
For this shoot, time was limited, so I wanted to simplify things by reducing my variables.
I decided to use a single strobe, mounted in a stripbox to the model’s right (camera left), positioned in such a way that the light subtly wrapped around her while the spill gave a gentle glow to the background.
