A couple of natural light portraits from a recent photography session in the desert south of Tucson. In addition to the natural light, I just wanted to go with a natural look for the photos from this session – simple, without appearing too posed.
Despite a partially cloudy sky, the Southern Arizona sun was, as usual, pretty harsh, so I opted for backlighting and tried to wait for the cloud cover to cut down a bit on the background contrast. Using a long focal length and a shallow depth of field, the desert plants provided some interest to the background, while the tall grasses in the foreground gave some nice framing to the photograph of the sisters.
